Earlier this week, John Leech MP visited Media City to see what the BBC is doing to maximise the benefits to local people about their move to Salford.
John had a tour around the Media City site, met apprentices and quizzed the BBC's Head of External Affairs about recent press reports that that only 24 Salford people were hired at MediaCityUK as part of BBC North.
John Leech said, “I supported the move up North, and want to see jobs created by the BBC across Greater Manchester. The BBC told me that 233 new jobs had gone to Greater Manchester residents, and that an apprentice scheme had been set up for local young oppeople, with a target of 100 recruits in the next couple of years.
John attended the meeting with Manchester Lib Dem Leader Cllr Marc Ramsbottom and fellow Councillors Charles Glover and James Hennigan.
Cllr Marc Ramsbottom added, “Media City is a great asset for Manchester especially in the city centre where I represent. I think it’s important that strong links to Manchester and the surrounding North West areas are developed to ensure Media City reaches its full potential”.
